St. Philip Neri
The Paradiso Collection's inspiration started during marriage preparation. Michael and I watched a movie documenting St. Philip Neri's life since our wedding day is on his feast day, May 26. I carried St. Philip with me after being moved to tears, laughter and deeper prayer through this saint's life. His famous saying in the movie, "I Prefer Heaven... Preferisco il Paradiso," became one I focused on myself.
As weeks went by, I was captivated by the Louisiana skies on my morning and evening commutes to our home. The sporadic rain showers brought about amazing colors interspersed with the clouds. I was truly in awe at how beautiful these sunrises and sunsets were. The beauty of the sky led to pondering the garden before Adam and Eve's fall. What did these peaceful landscapes look like? My eyes do not have the capacity to see nor is my mind capable of that imagination. Letting this reality sink in, I looked for beauty existing around me.
In this collection, Paradiso is represented in a colorful, peaceful landscape scene that attempts to echo God's creation without the effects of sin. While I am sinful and unable to paint a true Paradiso, these unique pieces offer a humble effort to share God's beautiful creation.
